Shaikh Sajid Ahmed Umar

Sajid Ahmed Umar
Sheikh Sajid was born in Leicester, UK. He attended primary, secondary and college in Harare (Zimbabwe), where he studied IT and obtained a first class degree. Having memorized the Qur'aan at the age of eighteen he turned his attention towards Islamic studies. He travelled to Riyadh where he enrolled at Imaam Muhammed Ibn Saud Islamic University completing a University Diploma in Arabic language and Islamic Sciences. He continued his studies at al-Imaam University, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Shari'ah. He now plans on pursuing his Masters, specialising in Comparative Islamic Law in the Higher Institute for Judiciary Studies (Ma'had al'aaly lil Qadha) at al-Imam University.

He has spent much of his semester breaks teaching various Islamic programs for the youth and adults in Saudi Arabia, UK , South Africa, Malawi and Zimbabwe. These classes ranged from lectures in Masaajid, on radio, TV and via online mediums. He has also spent time working on syllabus and curriculums for use in Islamic schools based in the West. He is an Imaam and Khateeb of the largest Masjid in Zimbabwe. He is also a Lecturer at Knowledge International University and a member of their Academic Management Team. His hobbies include building computers to customer specs, book collecting and reading. Sh. Sajid is married and has a son named Abdullah. He has a brown belt in karate, is a keen golfer, swimmer, footballer and cricketer, and has completed over 15 articles and 5 dissertations related to Islamic Sciences. 
Sheikh Sajid is also the 'Director of Islamic Development' for Mercy Mission World.

Dr Riaz Ansary


Riaz Ansary graduated from the College of Sharee'ah of the Islamic University of Madeenah in 1993. He completed his master's degree in usool al-fiqh at the International Islamic University of Malaysia and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization, also in Malaysia.

He has translated a number of Arabic books into English, including biographies of the Companion Adee ibn Haatim and the Hadeeth scholar Aboo Daawood al-Sijistaanee [for Dar us-Salam, Riyadh], and Muhammad Hamidullah's compilation Political Documents of the Prophet (pbuh) [for the Islamic Book Trust, KL], and he is the author of a book, A Search for Happiness,published by Dar ul-Huda in Chennai, India.

Dr Riaz serves as the instructor for Usool Al-Fiqh and Uloom Al-Qur'an for the Islamic Online University.

Name : Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips (formerly known as Dennis Bradley Philips).


Short Biography :
Dr. Bilal Philips is a Jamaican Canadian Islamic Scholar who was born in a Christian family but converted to Islam in the early seventies from Communism.

About his personal life :
Son of Jamaican parents born on 7th, July, 1947 in Jamaica, he grew up in Canada and lived and studied in Malaysia. He is the father of 20 Muslim children and has a black belt in Tai Kwon Do and currently studies Tai Chi. Among the more notable aspects of his academic life is that he sat in the circles of famous Hadith scholar, Shaikh Naaseer udeen Albani for 4 years in Madinah (1976-1980), as well as the circles of the famous Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Shaikh Ibn Baz in both Madinah and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He also translated for both Shaikh Ibn Baz and Shaikh Ibn Jibreen on numerous occasions.

      Shaikh Abu Muawiyah Ismail Kamdar

      Shaikh Abu Muawiyah Ismail Kamdar began his study of Islam at the age of thirteen. In 2006, he completed a seven year Islamic scholarship at a local Darul Uloom. In his quest for the truth and authentic Islamic knowledge, Shaikh Abu Muawiyah continued studying Islam and sat with scholars from a variety of Madhabs and sects.

      His most notable teacher is Dr Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips. Shaikh Abu Muawiyah served as an Arabic and Islamic Studies Educator at Ihsaan Boys College is Durban, South Africa in 2008, and as an English and Social Studies Educator at the Al-Fajr International School in Chennai, India for part of 2009.

      Shaikh Abu Muawiyah currently resides in Durban, South Africa and serves as an Arabic Tutor for Deenclass, an associate writer for Muslim Matters and as a Tutorial Assistant in Tafseer, Fiqh and Arabic for the Islamic Online University. He also appears regularly on Radio Al-Ansar and Channel Islam International.

      Shaikh Tariq Appleby



       Sh. Tariq Appleby was born and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. His family background is a mix of Malay, Indian and his great grandfather was English.

      After completing High school Sh. Tariq went to the Islamic University of Madeenah to pursue Islamic studies. He completed his Diploma in Arabic and then in 2007 graduated with a B.A. in Hadeeth studies. His time in Madeenah coincided with that of his friend and colleague Bilal Ismail. During that time they both studied basic Fiqh with Sheikh Tawfique Chowdhury and also with other scholars in Madeenah.
      He has taught in a number of Islamic centres in Cape Town including the Discover Islam centre (DIC) with Dr Abdullah Hakim Quick. He also teaches with AlKauthar Institute and has taught courses in the UK, South Africa, India, Malaysia and Australia.  He also teaches with Al-Hijra foundation which offers short courses and youth programmes in Cape Town.

      Sh. Tariq is married and has 3 children, his hobbies include hiking and martial arts.

       Sh. Tariq Appleby is Tutorial Assistant at Islamic Online University for the courses Seerah and Aqeedah.

      Dr. Muhammad Anwar Sahib


      Dr. Muhammad Anwar Sahib, Ph .D, New Zealand.

      Dr. Muhammad Anwar Sahib Almadani is a Fiji born, kiwi (New Zealand) Islamic scholar. He started to study at Madeenah Islamic University at the age of 14. After completing Arabic language course and high school he completed his BA in Islamic studies. Later on he completed his masters and PhD (1999) in Quranic science from the same university. He has authored a few books in Arabic and English that are yet to be published. He has presented Islamic programs on Voice of Islam, New Zealand and various radio channels.

      He has coordinated many Islamic courses in various countries:
      New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Papua New Guinea. He has attended many conferences locally and aboard. He is a founder member and chairman of AtTaqwa Trust, Auckland, New Zealand. His roles include that of Imaam, Khateeb and religious advisor. He is also the Secretary for the Ulama board of New Zealand and advisor for Halaal issues to the NZ government.
